The help browser in 0.9.8 has added: Hints (click here), which give a short explanation of a term, or may offer additional explanatory info on a subject. To close, just click outside the area of the hint. This works best with Qt 3.1.2+
Recent Additions to the Documentation
- The Table of Contents has been moved to a separate page.
- Added a new page on (06:05:2003) Top Ten Hints for using Scribus
- Added a new page on (06:05:2003) Scribus - SVG Export Plug-in
- Added a preliminary draft PDF on how to handle Scribus PDF files for printers and service bureaus.
- There is a new (18:04:2003) page on using wine with Acrobat for checking PDF/X-3 files created with Scribus.
- There is a new (23:03:2003) page for the new font preferences and font management panel.
- There is a new (02:03:2003) howto for profiling your monitor with the profile constructors from littlecms. This will help you get more accurate previews with color management in Scribus.

- There is a updated howto for using "hidden features" in Adobe Acrobat Reader with Scribus
- There is a new howto for using GSView as a "front end" to lesser known features of Ghostscript in GSView and Scribus
- A new Hyphenator Plug-in has been added, greatly ehancing the text layout within Scribus. Hyphenator Documentation describes how this works.
- There is a new scripting plug-in, including an interactive console, which allows Scribus to use Python as a scripting language. The first reference manual is here and is included in the plug-in installation,along with sample scripts. You can download it from the Scribus download page.
- For documentation on the new interactive PDF form features in 0.9+, look at the documentation under PDF Export - Save As PDF You are encouraged to also look at Optimizing Linux for Desktop Publishing for getting the best results with Scribus.
What's new in Scribus 0.9.9 ? (Released 2003:04:19)
- Support for Unicode fonts via freetype2. This allows both Unicode text and usage of all the glyphs within Unicode fonts. You need freetype2 to enable this feature.
- Support for embedding icc profiles when printing directly from Scribus. This will allow for print proofs which simulate standard CMYK press conditions or well profiled printers.
- Implemented Reverse Writing Mode for Textboxes. This enables right to left languages such as Hebrew and Arabic script.
- Hungarian Hyphenation added
- Improved the zooming with the Mouse Wheel by enableing it when you press the Mouse Wheel
Scribus 0.9.8 ? (Released 2003:03:26) added:
- A newly revised measurements palette with addtional functions and reduced screen usage.
- You can now zoom In and out withe the Mouse Wheel when you hold the Shift-Key whilst rotating the Wheel.
- The Postscript Driver can now separate RGB-Images too. The only thing that doesn't work are Gradient Fills of Objects on Template Pages.
- The PDF-Exporter converts now RGB-Images to CMYK when Destination Printer is selected.
0.9.7 (Released 2003:2:08) has added:
- Completed the PDF-Exporter.
- New Bookmarks Palette.
- Added a Danish Translation and Hyphenation.
- Added a Slovak Hyphenation.
- Moved the English Documentation to a seperate Package.
- Moved the Sample Files to a seperate Package.
- Updated the Scripter and SVG-Export Plugin to work with Scribus-0.9.7
- Added a Command to save everything into a Folder to ease moving Files.
0.9.6 (Released 2003:1:12) has added:
- The big news is support for the creation of PDF/X-3 compliant PDF's. This is a major advance in the capabilties for Scribus to produce "press-ready" PDF's suitable for use in commercial printing. Info and PDF/X-3 Q and A
- Added support for CUPS. You can access the CUPS settings directlt within the Scribus print dialog. With Cups Gimp-Print, you will get the best quality printing from inkjets and other printers supported by Gimp-Print.
- Scribus can encrypt PDF's with 128 bit strength.
- The SVG export plug-in has been updated to work with the 0.9.5+ versions of Scribus.
0.9.5 (Released 2002:12:30) has added:
- Fixed a long standing Bug with Documents printed directly after loading
- Embedding of ICC-Profiles in PDF's is now an option.
- Experimental Support for PDF-1.4 Transparency. There is a check box in the preferences to enable it. By default it is off. ** Thus, PDF's created with this enabled will only show transparency in Acrobat Reader 5.0+ or the full version of Acrobat 5.0+ **
- Reworked Font Preferences
- Lots of bugfixes in the Postscript and PDF exporters.
- Scribus installs now in $prefix/lib instead of $prefix/share to be compliant with the FHS.
0.9.4 (Released 2002:12:15) has added:
- Gradient Fills for all Objects except Pictures
- Guidelines which can be dragged out of the Rulers
- A locking function for objects - both graphic elements and text frames
- A Button in the File Select or File Save As: which navigates to a preferred directory for saving your Scribus docs - defined in File -> Preferences. This works much like Star Office or Open Office, if you are familiar with these applications.
- PDF Options are now saved with the Document
- Added a Polish Translation
0.9.3 has added:
- A much requested feature, MDI (mulitple document interface) is in Scribus. This give users the ability to have multiple Scribus Documents open, as well as copy paste/move objects between documents.
- Some enhancements to the PDF exporter, which reduce memory use
- More features with paragraph styles.
- A Russian hyphenation dictionary has been added. The usual bug fixes....
