About dc-qt

dc-qt is a Qt-based GUI for the Direct Connect filesharing client DCTC. It is licenced under the GPL, meaning that you can use it free of charge and modify it any way you like, as long as you make your changes availible to the public. Please read the licence agreement supplied with the distribution.

Short history

dc-qt was initiated in 2002 as a learning project. Rikard joined after a while since there were no good clients for linux back then. After the 0.0.3 release, Craig disappeared and the project fell into a deep sleep. Some year later, Rikard and Micke started rewriting the program completly, adding a more gimp-like interface. After that, Arsenij joined and rewrote the transfer widget.

Currrent status & Goals

As of this writing, right before the release of 0.0.7, dc-qt has evolved into a somewhat usable program with support for the most basic features of DCTC.

The goal of the project is to create a stable client that is easy to use without limiting the functionality of the program. It should be usable both for the beginner and the more experienced user. We feel that the existing Linux clients are to cluttered and badly designed with respect to the user interface. Too many features can indeed annoy advanced users, and are disasterous for people who don't understand them.

At the current time of writing, we are concentrating on adding features and improving the user interface. Suggestions are most welcome. Right now, the choice of toolkit is Qt, but we might add support for KDE later on when we have little else to do.
